Our Work

Platforma arts and refugee network supports and develops arts and culture by, about and with refugees and migrants.

Platforma is managed by Counterpoints Arts in partnership with organisations across the country. Every two years we run the Platforma Festival in a different part of England. Platforma 5, took place in Kent & Medway in October 2019. Platforma 6 will take place in Yorkshire in October 2021.

We provide one-to-one information to artists and organisations: on subjects including access to opportunities, contacts, project development and fundraising. If you have questions, or would just like to talk through some ideas, you are welcome to email us hello@counterpointsarts.org.uk

Since 2020 we have been running monthly meet-ups online in partnership with the Refugee Week network (also managed by Counterpoints Arts).

Platforma also co-ordinates regular meetings of producers commissioning work in the context of arts, refugees and migration, including the main Refugee Week festivals that take place around the country each year.

Platforma was set up by Counterpoints Arts, with the support of Ovalhouse Theatre. The project stems from the recommendations made in the 2008 Hybrid report The Arts and Refugees – History, Impact and the Future, which was commissioned by The Baring Foundation, Arts Council England, London and the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. The report and associated research set out ‘to trace the history of the arts and refugees in the UK over the past 20 years, to identify trends in practice and funding, to report on the outcomes of this activity and to make recommendations for its future support’.

We are always interested in connecting with new artists, organisations and networks so please do get in touch!
