Our Work

Platforma

Platforma supports and develops arts by, about and with refugees and migrants. We believe that the quality and diversity of the work presented encourages new audiences to relate more closely to the experiences of refugees and migrants.

Platforma is managed by Counterpoints Arts in partnership with organisations and artists across the country.

Every two years we run the Platforma Festival in a different part of the country – the next, Platforma 5, will be in Kent in autumn 2019. We are working with a wide range of organisations and artists across Kent & Medway to showcase local work, and to bring in exciting work from elsewhere in the UK and internationally. There will also be a conference and a series of workshops and discussions exploring aspects of practice including approaches to participatory work. Our focus is not just on newly arrived people but also host communities, considering how the arts can help foster understanding and “living well together”.

Through our Platforma strand we offer support and advise artists on aspects of practice and career development. For example, many artists from refugee and migrant backgrounds find it difficult to access arts networks in this country and are not familiar with funding or other opportunities. Sometimes we are able to provide one-off signposting and advice. On other occasions we develop longer term relationships with artists and are able to link them into the Counterpoints Arts production and learning strands .
